Valerie Craig

Artist's Resume

Valerie has drawn and painted nearly all of her life.  In 1998, she left her career in nursing administration to pursue her passion for painting and love of the outdoors.  With more than 25 years in the field, Valerie has supplemented her in-depth independent study with workshops with noted artists.  Her oil and watercolor paintings include still lifes, landscapes and street scenes.  Her work reflects her connection to the local Pennsylvania countryside as well as the rural farms and beaches in southern New Jersey.  She has traveled frequently to Ireland and within the United States, seeking inspiration and opportunities to paint in the field.

Valerie feels that her best expressions happen when she is on location, painting quickly and capturing the essence of a subject or the mood of a time and place.  She finds that depicting the true color, light and atmosphere of a subject is best down through direct observation and by truly understanding a familiar place.
Valerie’s award winning work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.  Her paintings have been chosen for several greeting card and a book cover.  She teaches landscape painting locally as well as in Europe. She was awarded Best in Show in the 2008 Wayne Plein Air Festival and Runner Up (to Best in Show) in the 2009 American Women Artists’ Association annual juried competition.
