Mike Hoyt
Artist's
Resume
Mike is a native of Florida, but makes his home in North Carolina and Taos, New Mexico. Mike’s painting career has taken him from his native southeast and the American Southwest to France, Spain, Portugal, South America, New England and the Pacific Northwest. He studied design at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked with several noted impressionists at the Cape Cod School of Art and the Scottsdale Artists School. In recent years, Mike has become a popular workshop instructor in the southeast. Mike is drawn to the vivid colors and exquisitely warm light of the southern sea coast, northern New Mexico and the south of France. “Since almost all of my work is done in plein air, light, shadow and mood are essential subjects in my paintings. These elements help tell the story. So I try to set up an easel where these features are very much in play.” His favorite subjects include rural landscapes, seascapes, figures, farm animals, cityscapes, and “just about anything that reflects light and doesn’t move much.” Mike’s work is collected by individuals throughout North America and Europe, as well as several major banks, law firms, and hotels. His paintings recently illustrated the North Carolina Literary Review and have been selected for a special private display in London.
