Artist's
Statement & Resume
"In this body of
work, I combine abstract expressionist mark making with the precise
color placement of
a high illusionist painter. Each work
starts with a vigorous application of gesso to the panel. Its topography
is revealed through a series of washes. Natural nuances in the texture
are embraced and treated with sensitivity. Illusionary techniques are
used to enhance such nuances and establish order to the surface. The
result is mysterious and rich. In doing these paintings, I’m
attempting to create “harmony” between physicality and
illusion, spontaneous and controlled, activity and stillness."
