Beverly Whiteside
Artist's
Statement & Resume
The heart of my work is reflected in narrative compositions of powerfully inviting colors, shapes and forms. My eyes grasp pieces of life in my community, church and family. The artwork depicts contemporary and historical, daily events in the lives of African-Americans.
Beverly’s bold, colorful folk art is done with acrylic paints on discarded or recycled wood. Although well educated she is a self-taught artist. In 2003 she was selected by the Greater Columbus Arts Council for a three month residency in Dresden Germany and in 2001 received a $5000 Individual Artist Fellowship. She is a Columbus native and is presently a Dance Specialist, Fair Ave. Arts Impact School.
